Alice Hughes

Alice is an award-winning producer whose films have screened at top festivals internationally, including SXSW, BFI London Film Festival, Sundance London, AFI Docs, and many more. Her work has earned multiple Grierson and BIFA nominations and won a BAFTA Cymru.

Specialising in bold, character-driven storytelling across both documentary and fiction, she collaborates closely with directors to bring ambitious, thought-provoking films to life. With a sharp instinct for narrative and a deep understanding of production, she thrives on shaping compelling stories and innovative projects.

Her debut feature, Half Way, earned its director a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit award and was nominated for both a BIFA and a Grierson in 2017. Her second feature, Holloway, funded by BFI Doc Society, premiered in Competition at the 2024 BFI London Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for Best Documentary.

Alice has also produced a number of acclaimed short films. Puffling had its world premiere in competition at SXSW 2023, was longlisted for a BIFA, and won the Oscar-qualifying Jury Award for Documentary at Aspen Shortsfest. It was also featured on Doc NYC’s prestigious “Shortlist,” highlighting it as one of the year’s strongest awards contenders before finding its online home on The New Yorker.

In addition to her work in film, Alice produces music videos, social content, and commercials, collaborating with a wide range of clients across various platforms. She has been a visiting tutor and mentored emerging filmmakers at institutions including UCL, Manchester University, and Met Film School. Alongside creative producing, she specialises in crafting tailored finance strategies, pioneering innovative production and distribution models and leading impact campaigns.

Recognised as a Sheffield DocFest Future Producer in 2023, Alice runs Beehive Films, dedicated to producing cinematic, thought-provoking films with social issues at their core. Always seeking ambitious and meaningful projects, she welcomes collaboration and invites you to explore her work.
